Efficient wastewater treatment is increasingly challenged by growing regulatory requirements, space constraints, and the need to optimize existing infrastructure. This presentation explores modern approaches to wastewater clarification system design, scum removal, and effluent aeration with a focus on integrating high-rate settling technologies—particularly inclined plate (lamella) settlers—into primary and secondary clarifiers.
Grounded in fundamental treatment principles, the session examines how clarification, surface solids removal, and effluent aeration performance are driven by repurposing existing technologies for each of these stages within the wastewater treatment process. Attendees will gain insight into the design considerations required to prevent solids washout, improve effluent quality, and ensure reliable sludge management.
A key emphasis is placed on lamella sedimentation systems, which significantly increase effective settling area while reducing footprint. These systems enable higher hydraulic capacity, improved removal of fine suspended solids, and enhanced resilience to peak flow conditions.
The presentation also highlights complementary technologies for complete treatment system optimization, including advanced sludge removal systems and low-maintenance effluent aeration solutions designed to meet stringent dissolved oxygen discharge requirements. Real-world case studies from large-scale municipal installations across North America demonstrate measurable improvements in solids removal efficiency, operational reliability, and lifecycle cost reduction.
Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for designing compact, high-performance wastewater treatment systems that balance efficiency, constructability, and long-term operational sustainability.
