Prior to the 2024-2025 year, understanding how an EFC is calculated is important when exercising professional judgment or otherwise updating a student’s FAFSA -- how would any changes impact that calculation and the student's eligibility? The SAI calculation, beginning in 2024-2025, is similar in almost all respects to the EFC, though the outcomes can be quite different. In this session we will walk through the SAI calculation steps, and review case studies submitted by WASFAA colleagues with an eye toward understanding how SAI results may vary from the EFC.
