Option Q.  The value of Design/Build with multiple owner influences and a critical timeline.
Presented by Beck Group
The City of Westminster was required to construct a 600 stall parking structure by July 24, 2016 or face $10,000 per day delay claims from the Regional Transportation District (RTD).  Time was of the essence and with multiple stakeholders, the task of building the parking deck on a vacant parcel surrounded by industrial and residential lots, adjacent to an active freight rail (BNSF) and future RTD commuter rail platform, the City utilized a design/build contract method to achieve success. This presentation will provide an overview of the project, but more importantly how anyone can improve their coordination and communications skills when under time and financial pressure.

Up, Up and Away! Airports Take off Using Design Build
Presented by Hensel Phelps

Aviation is a growth industry.  Airports around the nation are expanding and renovating both on the airside and the landside.  Renovating an existing airport is a complex, time consuming and expensive process.  Many airports around the nation are looking to Design-Build or some variation thereof to deliver their projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.  The presentation will be a case study of different airports around the nation, and how they are approaching project delivery, some using design-build, others not. Case studies will include the Eagle County Airport, Denver International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Nashville and Los Angeles International Airport.  Variations on the project delivery approach will be discussed and the challenges associated with airport design and construction considered.   A brief presentation on each of the case studies will be followed by a panel discussion.
