Fantasia II

S A T B

The form of this fantasia follows some late renaissance composers, but I think my own musical sensibility is a mixture of baroque and 19th century romanticism. The rhythmic signature in the first measure important in holding this piece together through the many guises of its opening bars. Overall impression, I believe, is joyful.

Following up on the composer's Fantasia I, this is a delightful SATB quartet movement full of joy and accessible to all playing levels. As a Fantasia, the music goes through various moods, and the character of the moment can change to suit. All parts sit in the comfortable range of their respective recorders, with Soprano going up to G, Alto up to C. Straightforward rhythms and harmonies make this piece a good selection for an informal playing session, church service or chapter meeting. As in the first Fantasia, dynamics and phrasing are not indicated, but there is some stretchiness prescribed toward the end.
