This after weeks of cleanup and renovation of the site. Recently, visitors complained the site looked rundown which included dry fountains, a broken donation box, and lights. "Over the past month we've had a work day and businesses have given toward the materials and contributions," said Peter Onofre from the New Life Christian Center. The 9/11 memorial sits off Highway 90 near Lackland Air Force Base. It was built 11 years ago and New Life Christian Center is responsible for handling all upkeep and donations of the site. Onofre, who oversaw the cleanup, said about $7,000 went into fixing the memorial so far. He says the fountains were the most expensive to fix. While they weren't running, they were filled with water. "Right now we have a tentative fix though we'll be working past the memorial date to get it all completed," said Onofre. Phase 1 of the San Antonio 9/11 renovation has been completed just in time for the 9/11 commemoration ceremony Thursday. That included new paint, landscape, and work on the water features.
