Job Summary
Oversees and coordinates Industrial Pretreatment and Laboratory operations for the City’s Water Reclamation Department. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and regulatory oversight to ensure efficient wastewater treatment operations and full compliance with environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities
• Administer and maintain the Industrial Pretreatment Program in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Monitor facility compliance with NPDES permit requirements and report issues
• Supervise laboratory staff and oversee wastewater, effluent, and biosolids analysis
• Conduct inspections of industrial and commercial facilities, including unannounced visits
• Manage industrial surcharge program, reporting, and invoicing
• Coordinate testing with external labs and ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices
• Investigate process upsets, system issues, and recommend corrective actions
• Oversee purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of lab and pretreatment equipment
• Prepare reports for city officials and regulatory agencies
• Train, supervise, and evaluate staff; provide technical guidance
• Respond to emergencies (24/7 on-call) and public inquiries

Additional Requirements
• On-call availability with ability to respond within 60 minutes
• Participation in community outreach and city committees as needed



Qualifications:
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, civil engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible water reclamation experience
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, lab analysis, and environmental regulations

Certifications (Required or Obtainable)
• Ohio EPA Class III Wastewater Certification
• Class I Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification
• Valid Ohio driver’s license
• Confined space entry and forklift certification

Skills & Abilities
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret chemical/biological data and regulatory requirements
• Effective communication with staff, officials, and the public
• Ability to work in demanding environments and respond quickly to emergencies



Comments:
This position offers a starting range of $71,210.14 - $85,452.17. City benefits include medical, prescription, dental, and vision. In addition, benefits include membership in the Ohio Public Employer’s Retirement System, life insurance, vacation, sick leave accruals and select paid holidays.
