The responsibilities of this position are split between the YCUA Laboratory and Wastewater treatment plant. As a Wastewater Operator, performs a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and monitor wastewater systems for safe and efficient operation. Responsibilities include: recordkeeping; sampling; equipment cleaning and preventative maintenance; facility maintenance and repair; miscellaneous custodial duties. As a Laboratory Technician, performs a variety of standard technical work and procedures for chemical and bacteriological testing of the treatment plant and industrial wastewaters. Responsible to perform work in adherence to standard procedures and practices in a timely manner with attention to detail. Responsible for accuracy in recording procedures and results and for maintaining records and reports.

Qualifications:
H.S. Diploma or GED required.
Passing score on Laboratory Technician and or Wastewater Operator test required.
Valid Michigan Drivers License required.
Previous Lab or Wastewater experience preferred.
Must hold a Class D Wastewater Treatment Operator license at the time of hire and obtain a Michigan Water Environment Association Grade 1 Laboratory Analyst Certification within the first 3 available testing opportunities after meeting the 90 day probationary period. Holding the Michigan Water Environment Association Grade 1 Laboratory Analyst Certification at the time of hire is preferred.
Knowledge of elementary principles of chemistry, biology, and hydraulics preferred.
Mechanical ability necessary to analyze, monitor, and repair equipment.
Ability to follow directives accurately and thoroughly and work without close supervision.
Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities.
Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to perform manual labor; ability to work in adverse environmental, extreme weather and field conditions.- Working knowledge of modern office practices and modern computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Office suite); laboratory equipment and procedures/terminology; chemistry, bacteriology, and industrial waste processes; Federal, State, and local regulations associated with the disposal of industrial waste.
- Ability to accurately and efficiently perform tests, math calculations and interpret test results.
- Ability to perform data entry in spreadsheets accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to follow directives faithfully; work without close supervision and also work effectively with others.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask work in order to meet required timelines.
- Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to be flexible with frequent and regular changes to assignments to responsibilities between the lab and wastewater treatment plant.
