Details:
Under direction, is responsible for a large engineering project or a number of smaller projects with many complex features. Represents the department in project conferences to plan and coordinate work and makes recommendations to the Drainage Board and/or Water Resources Commissioner regarding the awarding of contracts. Work requires the use of advanced engineering techniques, computer software, and the modification and extension of engineering theories. Coordinates with consulting engineers on the preparation of drain, sanitary sewer and/or water line construction plans. Prepares preliminary financial and cash flow studies based on population projections and other criteria. Provides data to the financial consultant and answers inquiries relative to financial feasibility to be forwarded to bond council prior to the preparation of county?municipality contracts. Organizes and coordinates the starting of construction, conducts pre?job meetings with contractors, public utilities and permit agencies to identify and resolve problems. Determines work priorities within an assigned project and supervises personnel to ensure that sound engineering work methods and procedures are being followed. Prepares monthly payment estimates, negotiates and prepares change orders, and supervises final inspection. Ensures facilities are constructed according to plans and specifications by conducting or supervising appropriate tests on each facility to determine serviceability. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Employees of this classification are required to be available for operational problems, equipment emergencies, widespread storms, power outages and other operations and maintenance emergencies as deemed necessary by management after normal working hours, weekends and holidays. Also, employees in this classification are assigned On-Call duties as required by management.


Qualifications:
At the time of application, applicants must:

1. Be registered as a Professional Engineer by the Michigan State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

NOTE: The Michigan State Board of Registration requires a Bachelor's degree and four years of engineering experience to qualify for registration.

2. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of the Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.

3. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

4. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.



Special Requirements
1. Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

2. Maintain registration as a Professional Engineer by the Michigan State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
