Assistant Public Utilities Operator
Allendale Charter Township is hiring an Assistant Public Utilities Operator for their Allendale, MI Public Utilities plant. This position will report to the Assistant Superintendent of Public Utilities. This position is hourly and expected to work 40 hours per week. The wage range for this position is $17.32- $24.25 per hour.

Essential Job Functions:
1) Manage and administer the Miss Dig program including the GIS and GPS functions
2) Assist in the maintenance of Public Utilities equipment, including pumps, motors, and vehicles
3) Assist Public Utilities Operators with plant operation and additional maintenance duties as assigned
4) Assist with the repair of Township meter stations, lift stations, water storage tanks, mains and services.
5) Flush and maintain hydrants, as well as exercise shutoff valves and hydrants as assigned
6) Assist with special projects such as fabrication of equipment
7) Facilities maintenance and grounds maintenance as assigned
8) Assist with confined space entry
9) Other projects as assigned
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
1) Ability to see, hear, and respond to dangerous situations
2) Ability to wear personal protective gear as required
3) Ability to work independently
4) Ability to work in extreme weather as required
5) Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces
6) Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds regularly
7) Ability to speak clearly and listen on the telephone and in public
8) Ability to operate public utilities equipment as required for the maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant
9) Ability to manually dig as required
Qualifications:
Qualifications/Competencies:
1) Previous Public Utilities experience and/or training preferred
2) Completion of college level chemistry, biology, mathematics, and computer science courses preferred
3) Computer skills, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Ability to quickly learn enterprise systems. Experience with GIS and GPS software preferred
4) Basic writing skills and knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar required
5) Logic, intuition, analysis, organization, and judgement skills required
6) Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently by prioritizing and utilizing time management skills required
7) Capability to explain procedures and respond to questions from the public required
8) Mechanical aptitude to perform maintenance on public utilities equipment required
9) Ability to comprehend and complete math functions required
Education and Licensing Requirements:
1) High school Diploma or GED required
2) Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive/operate vehicles
3) Previous Powered Industrial Truck License or ability to obtain within one year of hire
4) Two or more years of college credit desired
5) Willingness to acquire additional training and education as determined by the Superintendent of Public Utilities and Lead Operators.
