Details:
MAIN PURPOSE: Continuously monitors the water treatment processes and makes operational changes necessary to insure conformance to acceptable standards and specified water quality. In addition, performs routine operational maintenance and custodial tasks on equipment, buildings and grounds.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
• Assure that plant operates within required standards
• Operate all plant equipment and processes and participate in routine and preventive maintenance
• Collect and analyze samples of water or waste at different stages of the treatment process
• Work with hazardous chemicals using proper safety practices
• Monitors performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment. Notifies supervisor of any problems
• Record daily entries in log sheets, log book and/or computer
• Performing lab duties using a series of defined testing procedures and performs lab tests required to determine process performance and by the Water Treatment Plant Discharge Permit
• May be required to perform or assist with corrective maintenance of equipment
• Operate mobile equipment as needed upon proper training
• Enter Maintenance Work Orders as needed
• Develop Process SOPs
• Participate in routine custodial duties as needed for building and grounds maintenance
• Participate in 5S
• Other duties as required



Qualifications:
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• A high school education or equivalent is required
• College level coursework or technical training in Water Treatment, biology/environmental science or chemistry preferred
• Experience in domestic or industrial water or wastewater treatment is desired
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment techniques, processes and equipment maintenance
• Knowledge in computer operations, data entry, spreadsheets, and word processing
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Ability to work independently and be self-directed
• Ability to follow both oral and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public
• MDEQ Industrial Wastewater certification upon hire is desired.
• Must obtain all necessary MDEQ Industrial Wastewater certification within a two-year period from date of hire.
