Building on the tradition established in 1977, the Asphalt Paving Awards Program continues as a cooperative effort between the Asphalt Pavement Association of Michigan (APAM) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The awards program recognizes excellence in asphalt pavement construction. All APAM members and their customers in the private and public sector are invited to nominate projects that exhibit exceptional construction qualities.
Evaluation Criteria: (Each project will be rated from one to ten, as applicable).
Appearance: includes overall neatness; Ride: must be smooth; Texture Uniformity: free of segregation, major surface grinding, roller marks, etc.; Longitudinal and Transverse Joints: straight, well-blended, smooth and uniform; Edges: straight, uniform, true to the contour of the road; Approaches: blended well with the mainline pavement; Utility Covers: flush with the pavement; Degree of Difficulty: includes exceptional circumstances, maintenance of traffic, night paving, etc.
Eligibility:
Only exceptional paving projects, constructed by a Contractor Member of the Asphalt Pavement Association of Michigan are eligible for these awards. Nominations must be received and the project must be completed by the submittal deadlines. Projects must be free and clear of all construction barrels etc. (Projects completed after the submittal deadline may be submitted the following year).
Nominations must be accompanied by a map indicating the project POB/POE coordinates, and three (3) high quality digital color photographs of the project must be uploaded with your application by the submittal deadlines listed below. Please note if APAM needs to get authorization from the owner to judge the project. Please note that Contractor self nominations are limited to (2) per plant.
New This Year, a fee of $200/ project nomination will be billed to each APAM member. APAM members will receive one combined invoice covering all applications submitted during the award application process, issued after the process closes.
