Community Engagement Excellence Award
Award Description:
The Community Engagement Excellence Award recognizes a government agency or Tribal Nation represented by a NAVPLG member for outstanding achievements in mobilizing and engaging volunteers to strengthen their local community. This award highlights the impactful role of volunteerism in advancing public service, fostering civic engagement, and building resilient, inclusive communities.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible, nominees must:
- Be a government agency or a Tribal Nation.
- Be affiliated with a current NAVPLG member who has a leadership role in the agency’s volunteer engagement efforts.
- Demonstrate a strong, measurable commitment to volunteer engagement as a strategy for community improvement.
- Have not received this award in the past three years.
Nomination Process & What to Expect
To submit a nomination, complete the online form, which includes:

Agency Information
- Name of Government Agency or Tribal Nation
- Department or Program Name (if applicable)
- Government Entity Type (Select one: Federal, State, Local, Tribal Nation, U.S. Territory, Public College/University, Public K-12 School District, Military Institution, Public Special Purpose District, or Contracted NGO)
- Name and Title of Key Contact Person (typically the NAVPLG member)
- Is the key contact a current member of NAVPLG? (Yes/No)
Award Criteria Questions
- Describe the agency’s approach to community engagement through volunteerism. (Include mission, vision, and how volunteers are integrated into service delivery. 500-word limit)
- What measurable outcomes demonstrate the agency’s excellence in engaging volunteers? (Examples may include volunteer recruitment and retention data, community impact metrics, or program growth. 500-word limit)
- How has the agency demonstrated innovation or leadership in the field of volunteer engagement? (Include unique strategies, partnerships, or models that set this agency apart. 400-word limit)
- In what ways has the agency addressed local community needs through its volunteer initiatives? (Describe efforts to improve public health, safety, education, equity, or other critical issues. 400-word limit)
- How does the agency align with NAVPLG’s core pillars: Leadership, Education, Advocacy, Networking, and Information Exchange? (Provide specific examples or activities that reflect this alignment. 300-word limit)
- Why should this agency receive the Community Engagement Excellence Award? (Summarize their community impact and leadership in volunteer engagement. 500-word limit)

Nominations must be submitted by the specified deadline. Applications will be reviewed by a judging panel consisting of NAVPLG Board members, volunteer administrators, government representatives, and invited experts.
