2023 SCHH Scholarship Application
8/14/2023 - 9/15/2023

Event Description

2023 Southern Conference on Homelessness and Housing (SCHH), to be held October 25-27, 2023, Hotel Effie Sandestin, Miramar Beach, Florida, is an opportunity for housing developers, homeless program managers, case managers, homeless advocates, state and local government representatives, providers of public and mental health services, and people with lived experience to come together to address the ongoing issues of poverty and the lack of safe, decent, and affordable housing in our region.

The Low Income Housing Coalition of Alabama (LIHCA)  has established a scholarship program to allow individuals who are currently experiencing (or have formerly experienced homelessness)  to participate fully in the conference if they cannot afford to cover the total cost. Airfare is not an eligible expense for this particular scholarship opportunity. Mileage will be calculated from your home address to the conference site round-trip. When we say lived experience, we mean knowledge based on someone's perspective, personal identity, and history beyond their professional or educational background."

This year’s theme is “Transforming Communities: Building Inclusive and Sustainable Housing Solutions.” We will explore sustainable, inclusive communities and discuss how quality affordable housing can be sustainable in the South. Together, service providers, system leaders, advocates, and people with lived experience of homelessness will learn from each other, discuss best practices, and share innovations in the field.

Prioritization Statement:

We will be following a prioritization process for the application review to maximize these scholarships' impact and extend this opportunity to as many deserving individuals as possible. Applications must be submitted by the priority deadline - Friday, September 15, 2023. Additionally, we will prioritize applicants actively contributing to the conference's programs through session proposals, committee participation, or other meaningful engagement."

Scholarship applications will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, September 15, 2023. Selected individuals will be notified on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. At a minimum, scholarship recipients are expected to participate in at least two (2) full days of the conference.
