Cone Penetration Test Workshop
11/12/2021 - 11/12/2021
11:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Event Description
Cone Penetration Test Workshop presented by CAGE Young Professionals Group

Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) is not generally used for subsurface exploration programs in Colorado. Despite this, engineers based out of Colorado typically work on projects located in different parts of the country where CPT is more commonplace. The goal of this workshop is to familiarize Colorado engineers with CPT in terms of the rig set-up; how raw data is collected and transformed into tip resistance, pore water pressure, and other outputs; and how to interpret CPT data for use in geotechnical engineering applications.

Schedule:

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Lunch (provided) and networking

12:30 PM – 2:00 PM: CPT Rig and Data Collection by Shawn Steiner (ConeTec)

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Geotechnical Engineering Applications of CPT Data by Dr. Peter K. Robertson (Gregg Drilling)

Presenters:

Shawn Steiner, ConeTec  - Shawn has 20+ years of experience managing high-performing professional and technical teams in the geotechnical site investigation industry.

Dr. Peter K. Robertson, Gregg Drilling -  Peter brings 40+ years of experience as an educator, researcher, consultant and practitioner specializing in the areas of in-situ testing and site investigation, earthquake design of geotechnical structures, and soil liquefaction. He is the co-author of the primary reference book on CPT and has assisted in the development of several CPT-based interpretation software programs.

We encourage participants to watch the following webinar prior to the workshop to familiarize themselves with the basics of CPT:
