CAGE/ASCE Denver Branch Presentation - InSAR Applications
12/9/2020

Event Description
An Introduction to InSAR and Applications to Mining, Landslides,
Tunneling and Expansive Soils
December 9 12PM-1PM

Presenter:
Giacomo Falorni, PE PhD

Presentation:

InSAR is a remote sensing technique that uses advanced algorithms coupled with radar satellite imagery to measure ground displacement. While initially mainly used for historical analyses of ground movement, the advent of modern satellites, more advanced and efficient algorithms, combined with cloud computing now allow monthly, biweekly or even weekly updates of displacement. InSAR is today used in a wide variety of sectors, including mining, oil and gas, civil engineering, natural hazards and more. A variety of examples from each of these sectors will be presented.

Speaker:

Giacomo has a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Florence, Italy, with a specialization in Engineering Geology, and a B.Sc. in Geological Sciences. He was awarded a fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to work on data from NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission. He is currently Technical Director at TRE Altamira Inc in Vancouver, has worked on over one hundred InSAR projects and presented at conferences and training courses worldwide.
