KCM Virtual: Book Study #3 - Developing Number Knowledge. Facilitator Cindy Aossey (2020)
7/16/2020 - 8/6/2020
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Description
The Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM) is pleased to host our 3rd virtual book study.

The book for this book study will be Developing Number Knowledge by Robert Wright, David Ellemor-Collins and Pamela Tabor.
"Drawing on extensive programs of research, curriculum development, and teacher development, the book offers a coherent, up-to-date approach emphasizing computational fluency and the progressive development of students' mathematical sophistication. The book is organized in key domains of number instruction, including structuring numbers 1 to 20, knowledge of number words and numerals, conceptual place value, mental computation, written computation methods, fractions, and early algebraic reasoning."

The facilitator for this book study is Regional Consultant Cindy Aossey. This book study will meet online via ZOOM on Thursdays at 2 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Central Time).
*The ZOOM links will be emailed to all registered participants.

See below for our reading schedule and come ready to participate in some great mathematical discourse:
July 16, 2020: Introduction - Chapter 2
July 23, 2020: Chapters 3-4
July 30, 2020: Chapters 5-6
August 6, 2020: Chapters 7-9

There is no cost to participate in this book study, however, participants should own a copy of Developing Number Knowledge or purchase a copy for themselves.

We ask that everyone wishing to participate in this book study register for this event so that the KCM can send handouts ahead of each session. After your registration is complete, you will receive a registration confirmation email from kcm@nku.edu. If you don't see it in your inbox, please check your junk/clutter. We ask that if you are a math teacher in the state of Kentucky that you use your school work email address to register.

The Kentucky Center for Mathematics at Northern Kentucky University looks forward to connecting with you to discuss this wonderful math education resource.
