Deer Creek Office Building

Deer Creek Office Building, aka Washington Group International Building aka Jefferson Corporate Center I, is a three story structure located southwest of C-470 near the Kipling Street interchange in Jefferson County, Colorado.  The building was designed and constructed circa 1999, in an area underlain by steeply dipping expansive bedrock.  It subsequently experienced significant slab and foundation heave.  The building movements and resulting distress to the property prompted a lawsuit, with many local engineering firms investigating and consulting of the project.  This presentation will review the history of the building, the remedial measures that were undertaken after the lawsuit was resolved, and the monitoring data that have been collected over the past twenty years.

John Reins, PE is a structural engineer and principal with the firm of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE). For the past 40+ years he has been primarily involved with the assessment and repair of distressed structures, many the result of soil movement.  He is a Past President of the Structural Engineers Association of Colorado (SEAC), and has served on the Board of Directors for Rocky Mountain ACI and CAGE.
