KCM is proud to partner with the Kentucky Department of Education to offer middle school educators impactful professional learning experiences (PLEs).  For 8^th grade teachers, the KCM, with grant funding from KDE, plans to provide a free one-day PLE with a focus on algebra and graphing. 
 
Participants will:

• Identify Big Ideas embedded in middle school Kentucky Academic Standards with a focus on standards in the domains: Expressions and Equations and Functions
• Explore specific visuals and contexts designed to support student understanding of expressions, equations, and functions
• Use instructional strategies to improve critical thinking, problem solving, and classroom discourse
• Receive resources such as manipulatives, books, and ready-made activities

 
Participants should be Kentucky 8^th grade educators. Teachers who work with 6^th, 7^th or 9^th grade students are welcome, but the content focus will primarily be on 8^th grade. This session is adapted from the PLE Foundations 8 offered in 2016-2017. This session is appropriate for teachers who are currently attending or have previously attended Foundations 6 & 7, as well as for teachers who have never attended a KCM PLE.

Please note: the content for the one-day Explorations in Algebra PLE is a repeat of a session from the Foundations 8 PLE that was offered in 2016-17. If you previously attended Foundations 8, then the material presented in the one-day Algebra session would not be new to you.
