Explorations in Integers for Grades 6 & 7 - Jefferson County - Linda Montgomery (2017-18)
11/8/2017 - 11/8/2017
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Event Description
KCM is proud to partner with the Kentucky Department of Education to offer middle school educators impactful professional learning experiences (PLEs).  For 6th and 7th grade teachers, the KCM, with grant funding from KDE, plans to provide a free one-day PLE with a focus on integer and integer operations.

Participants will:
  • Identify Big Ideas embedded in middle school Kentucky Academic Standards with a focus on standards in the domain: The Number System
  • Explore specific visuals and contexts designed to support student understanding of integers and integer operations.
  • Use instructional strategies to improve number sense, critical thinking, problem solving, and classroom discourse
  • Receive resources such as manipulatives, ready-made activities, books, etc.

Participants should be Kentucky 6th or 7th grade educators. Teachers who work with 8th grade students are welcome, but the content focus will be on 6th and 7th grade. This PLE was formerly called MaRTI Graduates (day 1). This session is appropriate for teachers who are currently attending or have previously attended Foundations 6 & 7, as well as for teachers who have never attended a KCM PLE.

Please note: the content for the one-day Explorations in Integers PLE is a repeat of a session from Middle Graduates that was offered in 2016-17. If you previously attended Middle Graduates, then the material presented in the one-day Integer session would not be new to you.
