Littlehorn Engineering is seeking to hire a Soils Technician/Geotechnical Engineer and Draftsperson for our Fairplay, CO office. Applications for entry level and senior level will be considered. Litttlehorn Engineering, LLC is a small engineering firm that has been in business since 2000. Our office allows our staff the opportunity to gain experience in multiple fascists of the construction industry.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Perform standard observations and soil testing following preset procedures including soils collection, testing, and analyzing
• Have general knowledge of sieve testing, soil identification, soil classification, index testing, swell/consolidation testing and other testing relating to foundation design
• Have some knowledge of onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS) procedures, requirements, and installation; familiarity with any state regulations is sufficient
• Use Windows based computer system and Microsoft Word and Excel, prepare soils testing reports and forms summarizing test and observation results
• Use AutoCAD to prepare site plans and septic designs
• Discuss field observations and test results with owner to ensure project execution, accuracy and timely reporting
• Maintain a quality program by performing equipment checks and calibrations.
• Obtain necessary field technician certifications
• Navigate and visit various properties in Colorado Mountain Communities

Requirements
• Construction and/or materials testing experience
• Knowledge of testing procedures and familiarity with testing equipment
• Good communication skills, mechanical and technical skills; willing to learn
• Good math aptitude
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Be able to comfortable drive a Subaru stick shift (company vehicle).
• Be capable of performing field and office work exerting up to 50 pounds of force regularly and more pounds of force occasionally, or a considerable amount of force to move objects
• Education in slope stability and seepage analyses is preferred.
• Certified soil technician or APSS or CPSS is preferred, but not required
• Good Autodesk AutoCAD aptitude – any version/year within last 10 years is acceptable
• Good Microsoft WORD and Excel aptitude
• Familiarity with wetlands and wetlands delineation is a plus
• Familiarity with house construction, foundation design, and framing is a plus

Position Summary:
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers is seeking Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineers to join our Construction Engineering Services (CES) group in the Denver, CO and Omaha, NE offices. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to grow within our highly technical team. The Geotechnical Engineer should have at least 5 years of experience, be technically advanced and familiar with current technology and software.

Our CES group provides value to the success of Kiewit projects by designing temporary works which are critical to safe execution of our work, quality project design, cost control, and construction excellence. The CES group provides engineering support on Kiewit projects which include: earthwork; support of excavation (sheet pile/soldier pile and lagging walls); gravity earth retaining structures; mechanically stabilized earth walls; soil nail design; slope stability analysis; settlement analysis; deep and shallow foundations; construction dewatering; pile driving analysis; ground improvement; heavy equipment and crane working surface design; and on-site engineering support.



Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Embrace a culture of safety and quality
• Apply in depth knowledge of geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, groundwater hydrology, and geotechnical design to support heavy civil construction
• Work on interdisciplinary teams that may include structural engineers, estimators, schedulers or construction experts to provide technical guidance on construction methodology, geotechnical risk, and the design of temporary works
• Produce engineering reports, drawings, and detailed calculation packages summarizing each engineering assessment of work currently being built
• Provide geotechnical support during bid-phase to help identify geotechnical risks and develop mitigation plans and innovative solutions



Expertise Required:
• Master of Science degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering; or equivalent experience required
• 5 to 10 years of post-graduate experience
