Free Art Workshop for Veterans

The Sonoran Arts League is proud to offer a Veteran Art Program to our military community, both active and retired, including free art classes, workshops, and open studio time, bridging the United States Armed Forces and the arts community by bringing the arts and art education to veterans and military.

Free for Veterans and Active Duty Service Members.
Guests and Spouses are invited to join pending available space for $12. 

 
Ceramics for Youth Artists: Handbuilding & Surface Design (4 Week Series)
Thursday, January 6, 2022 - Thursday, January 27, 2022

This 4-week class is designed for youth artists in grades 6-12 of beginner and intermediate experience levels. Students will learn handbuilding techniques tailored to their experience level and surface treatments to works created.
 

 Instructor: Robin Ray
 

4 Week Series - Class Dates:

  • January 6, 2022 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • January 13, 2022 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • January 20, 2022 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • January 27, 2022 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm


Registration includes:

  • 4 Weekly live lessons
  • Hands on instructor support
  • Ceramics materials provided at the Studio (clay, tools, wareboards, plastic, underglazes)
  • 2 rounds of firing
  • Glazes


Class Fee: $0 - This workshop is presented free to the community through the generous support of Kiwanis of Carefree. 
Materials Fee: $20 to be paid by participant. 

Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate

Age Limit: Youth Artists (grades 6-12 recommended)

Free Youth Art Workshop: Found Object Assemblage

Free Art Workshop for Students in Grades 3 - 8.

Found Object Assemblage 

Instructor: Jelena Eros

Participants will create a three-dimensional work of art made from combinations of materials including found objects or non-traditional art materials.

Class Fee: $0 - This workshop is presented free to the community through the generous support of Kiwanis of Carefree. 
Materials Fee: $10 to be paid by participant, scholarships available.

General Member Meeting
Monday, January 10, 2022 - Monday, January 10, 2022
This meeting will be streamed via Zoom. Sonoran Arts League Members will receive a meeting agenda and Zoom link via email one week prior to the meeting date. 

Each month the Sonoran Arts League brings together its members to discuss upcoming events, current arts trends and news from the organization. League membership meetings are also key opportunities for members to network amongst each other, develop new relationships, and stay up to date on all things Sonoran Arts League.

Wall Vase Glass Class
Tuesday, January 11, 2022

Instructor: Kathleen Nelson



Explore the art of fused glass and create a beautiful wall art piece. Students in this class will complete a 6x8” wall vase. Class should last about 2 hours. Using various types of glass, pebbles (drops of glass), stringers (thin glass rods), glass flower petals and frit (ground glass). Students will create a garden scene with a pocket where fresh or dried flowers can be displayed. For safety please wear closed toed shoes to class.


Class Fee: $75
Materials Fee: $20 (to be collected by instructor)

Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate

Age Limit: Minimum age of 12. Ages 12-17 ok, but must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

Board of Directors Meeting
Wednesday, January 19, 2022
The Sonoran Arts League Board of Directors determines the strategic direction of the organization while addressing economic development, growth, and unity amid a global pandemic. Board members will work to continue to build strong partnerships and connections that benefit the Sonoran Arts League members and the surrounding community. 

Board meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday of the month. Sonoran Arts League members are invited to attend board meetings as guests or submit items to be added to the agenda for presentation during a meeting.
