This 30-hour Basic Mediation Training is taught over four days and provides a balanced mix of theory and practical application. It fulfills the statutory requirements of the Nebraska Dispute Resolution Act and serves as the prerequisite for advanced training.
What You Will Learn
The curriculum implements diverse methods, including presentations, videos, and role-plays, and covers Nebraska's specific statutes and ethical standards.
Curriculum Essentials
Conflict theory, mediator ethics, and intervention models
Essential communication and negotiation skills
Theory and application of interest-based mediation
Dealing with emotions and bias awareness (cross-cultural implications)
Facilitative mediation style, focusing on keeping parties together (caucus as a tool)
Hands-on Practice
You will participate in several simulated mediation role-plays. These sessions include personalized feedback from experienced mediators/coaches at an excellent 4:1 role-player-to-coach ratio.

Mediator quick-guide reference booklet
