http://www.marylandema.orgRSS FeedTue, 31 Mar 2026 10:06:26 EDTen-us<p>Satellite observations can&nbsp;provide&nbsp;critical insights&nbsp;before, during, and after disasters strike&nbsp;to&nbsp;help communities better understand, prepare for, and recover from disasters and extreme events&nbsp;around the world.&nbsp;However, awareness and&nbsp;use&nbsp;of&nbsp;these data are uneven across&nbsp;the disaster response and emergency management community.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>NASA&rsquo;s&nbsp;Earth Science Division&rsquo;s Disasters Program aims to advance Earth science data&nbsp;use for supporting&nbsp;management decisions that prevent or mitigate the impacts of disasters.&nbsp;The Disasters Program has three elements:&nbsp;the Disasters&nbsp;Science to Action Portfolio of competitively-selected projects that conduct&nbsp;innovative research to address critical challenges in disaster management, the Disasters Response Coordination System that coordinates&nbsp;and mobilizes&nbsp;the Agency&rsquo;s assets&nbsp;and expertise during&nbsp;disaster&nbsp;responses, and the Disasters&nbsp;Learning &amp; Mapping&nbsp;Portal&nbsp;where freely available data products&nbsp;are provided&nbsp;in standardized geographic information systems (GIS) format to allow for easier integration into partners&rsquo; workflows.&nbsp;Through these elements, the&nbsp;NASA Disasters program&nbsp;builds awareness and access to Earth observation data&nbsp;and builds tools to help communities make informed decisions for disaster planning.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Using the vantage point of space, the disaster&nbsp;response and emergency management community can enhance decision making&nbsp;across the disaster cycle&nbsp;and&nbsp;apply actionable data to recover from disaster impacts and build resilient communities.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>This presentation will provide a brief overview of the NASA Disasters Program and its elements, provide case studies of how Earth observations&nbsp;have supported different&nbsp;facets&nbsp;of the disaster&nbsp;lifecycle, and&nbsp;highlight the innovative technologies and science NASA makes available to the disaster response community.</p> Tue, 31 Mar 2026 10:06 -0400Tue, 31 Mar 2026 10:06 -040003/31/202610:06 ammeet.google.com/wii-zqab-zhehttp://www.viethconsulting.com/Calendar/moreinfo.php?eventid=181828Join us for quick, informative 30-minute webinars on hot topics and best practices in emergency management.Fri, 18 Jul 2025 11:03 -0400Fri, 18 Jul 2025 11:03 -040007/18/202511:03 amhttp://www.viethconsulting.com/Calendar/moreinfo.php?eventid=181829
