Being "ready" for an emergency is a key factor when running a water system. Operators need to know how to get their system back online, where they get emergency water from if needed. Time will be broken into talking about natural disasters and the response and recovery from them. This class will also touch on other disasters, i.e. mass casualty shooter in the work place, and acts of terrorism on your water system.

Key topics include the formation of microbial flocs in wastewater, bioflocculation, and the settling process of mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) in a secondary clarifier. Through theoretical and practical lessons, learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of these critical biological processes in wastewater treatment.

Optional tour of Shelton's membrane and oxidation ditch treatment processes on Wednesday afternoon (not optional for Apprentices).

identify conditions that may present a sanitary or public health risk. Washington State drinking water
rules require all Group A public drinking water systems to have a routine sanitary survey once every
three to five years. This course will help students to understand what a sanitary survey is and how to
prepare for one.
