Happy New Year! As you begin planning your 2026 calendars, be sure to mark the dates for our NWSA/SCYA Women’s Sailing Conference, March 20–22 in Long Beach, CA. Early registration ends January 15. Attendance is capped, and several classes have very limited space. NWSA members receive a discount equal to a one-year membership, so be sure to join and log in as a member before registering. We are still seeking conference sponsors, including donations of silent auction items for our AdventureSail fundraiser. Please consider contributing if you can!
The Gail Hine NWSA Conference Scholarship and the SCYA Conference Scholarship are available for women who need financial assistance to attend the conference. Applications close on January 12.
This is the final month to submit nominations for the BoatUS/NWSA Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award. This prestigious award recognizes an individual with a long record of national-level impact in support of NWSA’s mission to enrich the lives of women of all ages through education and access to the sport of sailing.
This weekend, I’ll be attending the Gulf Coast Yachting Association (GYA) winter meeting, which includes a dedicated session on women’s sailing. I’ll be promoting women’s sailing groups and associations as a great way to build connections and create more opportunities to get on the water. The NWSA maintains a list of women’s sailing groups on our website. Check it out to see if there’s one local to you. |

Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award |
The BoatUS/NWSA Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award continues to reflect the many ways progress happens in our sport—often quietly, consistently, and far from the spotlight. Each nomination helps highlight work that might otherwise go unrecognized, connecting local impact to a national story of growth in women’s sailing. |
|
|
|
As we move into a new year, we encourage you to think about the people who have shaped access, opportunity, and participation in your own sailing community. If someone’s efforts have opened doors, built programs, or created space for women to step forward, their story belongs in this conversation.
Nominations for the 2026 BoatUS/NWSA Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award remain open through February 1, 2026. Submitting a nomination is a way to ensure that all of the work happening to advance women in sailing is seen, valued, and shared across the broader sailing community.
