| Dear GELSSA Members and Friends,
Next week marks a pivotal moment for our association—and I hope you’ll be there to be part of it.
Our Q3 Membership Meeting is happening on Wednesday, August 6th, and we’re calling on all of our members to show up, get involved, and make your voice heard. One of the biggest items on the agenda is a vote on a proposed rebrand of our association to the Georgia Integrators Association—a name we believe better reflects the dynamic, evolving nature of our industry and the wide range of professionals we serve.
This vote represents a major step in shaping the future of our organization, and we hope to have a record turnout to ensure every member has a say. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so today—and don’t forget to grab your tickets for our GELSSA Night at the Braves Game immediately following the meeting. Important note: Tickets for the Braves game will be distributed at the Q3 meeting, so you must attend to receive your game tickets!
We’re also in the midst of our Board of Directors election for the 2026 term. All primary member contacts should have received a ballot—if you haven’t voted yet, please take a few minutes to do so. Voting closes this Friday, August 1st, and we’ll be announcing the election results at the meeting next week. This is one of those moments where your involvement truly matters—not just for what we’re doing today, but for what we’re building for the future of our association and our industry.
I look forward to seeing all of you next week. Let’s make it a record-breaking meeting! Sincerely, Brandon Shepard GELSSA President |

Investing in the Next Generation of Industry - One New Hire at a Time! |
Last week, I had an energizing conversation with one of our GELSSA members that reminded me exactly why we do what we do. This member had just hired a few new team members—professionals brand new to our industry—and was thrilled to use GELSSA’s online training powered by Alarm Academy as a tool to properly onboard them. What really stood out was their intentional approach. They weren’t just checking a training box—they were focused on giving their new hires a strong educational foundation, helping them learn the language of our industry, and setting them up with the tools to build a real career in life safety. |
That’s the kind of forward-thinking leadership that moves our industry forward—and it’s exactly why we launched this training platform in the first place.
If you’re hiring or preparing for growth, you’re not alone. More and more GELSSA members are bringing in fresh talent and want a plug-and-play solution to fast-track onboarding and professional development.
That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of new bundled training packages this August! These curated bundles are built for exactly this purpose—helping your new team members hit the ground running with structured, affordable, and industry-aligned training paths.
Want to learn more? Join us on Thursday, August 7th at 2:30 PM for our upcoming webinar: "Building Your Technician Development Pathway" – Register Here We’ll walk through how to structure your team’s professional development from Level 1 Tech to Sr. Lead Technician, and how to use GELSSA training, assessments, and GELSSA’s workforce development toolkit to make it all happen.

Research Insights from Parks Associates: AI: Moving from Buzz to Tangible Benefits |
From Parks Associates: Written by Jennifer Kent, Ph.D. Parks Associates
"The emergence of consumer-facing generative AI is forcing a fundamental redefinition of what the smart home can do. AI is not just powering features behind the scenes; it is front-and-center in the user experience, capable of understanding intent, creating personalized automation, and delivering proactive assistance. Companies that move swiftly, thoughtfully, and responsibly now will shape consumer expectations and their own competitive futures.
Parks Associates latest research study of 8,000 US Internet households, AI in the Smart Home: Applications and Consumer Perceptions, quantifies consumers’ familiarity with and use of generative AI and gauges perceptions and concerns with artificial intelligence.
AI Innovation Opens New Possibilities and Competition
Connected home businesses are on the frontlines of AI use both internally and for product enhancement. Connected products and services generate a wealth of data that can inform organizational processes, including marketing methods and messages, support processes, and product development.
Ninety percent are using AI internally for at least one business purpose, including: · 36% using AI for software development, code generation, quality assurance
· 30% using AI for personalized marketing and customer segmentation
AI/ML also increases solution value and capability to consumers but are often behind-the-scenes and not evident to the end-user. Consumer-facing generative AI applications are, for many consumers, the first time they’ve knowingly interacted with artificial intelligence.” |
