Message from your Chair

Greetings, Dear Friends!

I recently ran across an article from the Mayo Clinic Health System regarding simple ways to keep your mind sharp at any age.  Emphasizing that your brain is similar to a muscle, meaning you need to use it or lose it, their tips for doing so included two that caused me to immediately think of IWWSG!  First, remain mentally active, i.e., keep learning.  Second, maintain active social connections.  Check off these two tips by attending IWWSG Membership Meetings!  The timely meeting topics and always-active networking will certainly help “keep your mind sharp at any age”!!

We had a very informative January  “PFAS Update”  meeting at La Parra Restaurant in Berwyn (see recap below), and registration is now open for our February 19 Joint Pretreatment Meeting with IWEA (a registration link is provided below) at Grill 89 in Westmont.

I again want to thank our members (especially our meeting attendees!), our meeting speakers, our Steering Committee members & other volunteers, and everyone else who helps keep IWWSG vibrant, relevant and successful.  You are all appreciated!!  Even if you haven’t participated recently, we cordially invite you, especially our Industrial leaders, to be part of our Group – you will be welcomed back!  Help us to continue to grow by becoming a member. Your paid memberships, attendance at meetings/events, and other support are truly appreciated.  Thank you!!

We hope to see you on February 19!

Cheers!

January Meeting Recap

On Wednesday, January 15, IWWSG made a repeat visit to La Parra Restaurant in Berwyn for two very informative & timely presentations on the hot topic of PFAS (the 10,000+ “forever chemicals”).  The discussion ranged from the basics of PFAS to the upcoming TRI & TSCA reporting requirements.

We were very fortunate to have two exceptional presenters for our meeting.  Lori Dinkelmann is a national expert on TRI reporting, having over 29 years of experience with TRI consulting, and leads ERM’s national TRI Reporting Team.  Michael Van Brunt, with over 20 years of experience in industry & consulting, is currently VP of Environmental & Sustainability at Reworld, where he is responsible for corporate sustainability strategy & reporting, and environmental compliance, permitting & monitoring.  And thank you to Steering Committee member James Shannon of Abbott for coordinating our speaker arrangements as well as Ted and Ricardo for following up with the restaurant.  I’ve attached some pictures from the event below. To see all of the meeting photos please click HERE.

January Meeting Bonus

Attendees at IWWSG’s January 15 Membership Meeting at La Parra Restaurant in Berwyn received a bonus – an on-going exhibition of some of Ted Denning’s photographs!  Ted is a retired environmental engineer with a lifelong involvement with, and appreciation for, nature, and is a long-time active IWWSG Steering Committee member (and, fortunately for us, our in-house meeting photographer!).  He has been a lifelong photography hobbyist, specializing in, as Ted puts it, “beauty, calm, peace and, occasionally amusing images”.  Ted is interested in the use of light, shape and color to create images that will draw the viewer into and around a gentle view of nature.  His prints are on polished aircraft grade aluminum, which provides vibrant color and luminance.  Ted would be happy to hear any of your comments or questions regarding his photos.

’24-’25 Membership Dues Reminder

Please take note of our '24-'25 members below and support them however you can!   Last year was another very active year for the group, with interesting speakers, some new dinner venues, two educational tours, another very deserving E. Ted Erickson “Distinguished Environmental Professional Award’ recipient, and an abundance of enthusiastic networking.

It's not to late to become a member and get your logo and company advertisment on our website, while being part of a great organization, with discounted dinner networking costs.
