President's Message

GELSSA is Re-Energized! Welcome to the first issue of our newly redesigned monthly newsletter, The Gazette. Many of you may remember The Gazette from years past and it is time to bring it back to life in a new digital format to provide you with information on all that is happening with our great association!

As we move forward into the next chapter of our association's journey, I am excited to share some accomplishments that are already re-energizing our membership and driving us towards greater success. In February, we appointed Shannon Few as our new Executive Director. For years, we had been operating through the hard work and efforts of volunteers and the time has come to bring on a professional association management company with the relationships, resources, and experience to bring new life to GELSSA.

We have established three strategic pillars: Education, Legislation and Networking to catapult GELSSA forward and serve as the guiding force behind GELSSA’s endeavors, driving innovation, progress, and collective success. As of this week, we launched our new association management system and website www.gelssa.org. This system will revolutionize the way we operate, streamlining processes, enhancing communication, and ultimately providing a better experience and more value for all members. In April, we will also launch a companion GELSSA mobile app, providing members with easy access to resources, education, events, and networking opportunities.

Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Reporting Requirements

All business owners need to be aware of this new Federal Reporting Requirement.

Beginning on January 1, 2024, many companies in the United States will have to report information about their beneficial owners, i.e., the individuals who ultimately own or control the company. They will have to report the information to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). FinCEN is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

As specified in the Corporate Transparency Act, a person who willfully violates the BOI reporting requirements may be subject to civil penalties of up to $500 for each day that the violation continues. That person may also be subject to criminal penalties of up to two years imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000. Potential violations include willfully failing to file a beneficial ownership information report, willfully filing false beneficial ownership information, or willfully failing to correct or update previously reported beneficial ownership information.
