The global scale, complexity and urgency of climate change is changing the way we live and inevitably, the way we do research. From the types of data we collect, to the methods we used and the way we communicate them to the world. This is why, at the ISEE European Chapter we have put together a series of 3 webinars that will address each of these aspects and provide resources to better equip researchers to continue fighting climate change.
In this second seminar, we will be exploring 'New methods and study designs in climate change epidemiology' accompanied by world-leading researchers in environmental epidemiology. Here, a snapshot of what they have ready for us!
The case time series design for environmental epidemiology

This seminar will introduce the case time series design for environmental health studies. Real-data reproducible examples will demonstrate applications for the analysis of aggregated small-area and individual-level cohort data. The examples will be illustrated using R code and data to be shared with the participants.
Integrated causal-predictive machine learning models for tropical cyclone epidemiology

Our limited understanding of the epidemiology of tropical cyclones inhibits progress in reducing health risks. We propose a statistical modeling approach that, when applied to today's wealth of historic weather and health data, enables standardized, high-resolution quantification of the health impacts of recent historic tropical cyclones and characterizes how features of the cyclone and the impacted communities explain variation in cyclone-related health risks. Our results can inform strategic preparedness and aid in identifying high-risk communities in advance of future cyclones.

Active ISEE member and part of the ISEE Europe Chapter. She graduated from the School of Mathematics of the University of Athens and obtained an MSc in Social Statistics from the University of Southampton, UK. She received her doctoral degree from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 2005, while she has been trained in Epidemiology and Environmental Epidemiology.
