Welcome everyone to the June Indiana IMAPS Zoom presentation. This month we are going to Mars. Our guest speaker is Mark Dapore, Chief Technologist at L3 in Mason, Ohio. He is going to give a very informative and excellent presentation on their critical  communication link to the Mars Perseverance Rover and its mission. Abstract and bio are below. From Mason to Mars
L3Harris Space and Sensors (formerly L3 Communications Cincinnati Electronics), located in Mason, Ohio, provided a critical communication link on the Mars Perseverance Rover that has been performing beyond expectations.  This presentation details our involvement in this exciting and memorable project, from design to mission success. 
L3Harris and Cincinnati Electronics have had a rich heritage of supporting the US space program, starting as Crosley radio engineers, and now enabling successful missions for NASA, JPL, USAF, and all major space companies.  Some of this past history will also be presented.
Mark Dapore, Chief Technologist
Mark Dapore is Engineering Fellow and Chief Technologist at L3Harris in Mason, Ohio. He is responsible for the technology planning and new product development for Space products at Space and Sensor’s division of L3Harris.  In his customer facing responsibilities, he builds technology roadmaps and secures funding to meet future space market needs. 
Mr. Dapore previously served as General Manager of L3Harris Space Avionics division, responsible for financial performance and strategic focus in Space products. The Space group designs and manufactures launch vehicle control avionics, command receivers, transponders, telemetry transmitters, payload transmitters and data acquisition units flying on the earth orbit satellites, deep space satellites, and launch vehicles. L3Harris is also extending its infrared sensor business into space to include earth imaging, missile detection and space situational awareness.
Mr. Dapore has also served as Vice President of Engineering at L3 Communications Cincinnati Electronics, and was responsible for product R&D, advanced product development, product upgrades, and engineering support across both Space and EO/IR business lines. He previously served as the Director of Engineering for Space Avionics, successfully managing design and development efforts. During his tenures as Space Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering, the Space Engineering group grew from 15 to more than 80 engineers.
Mr. Dapore has a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati with a major thrust in signal processing, and holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Dayton.
