KCM VIRTUAL: Making Number Talks Matter Book Study with Bonny Davenport (2020)
The Kentucky Center for Mathematics (KCM) is pleased to host a 2nd virtual book study with KCM Regional Consultant Bonny Davenport as the facilitator.
The book for this book study will be Making Number Talks Matter by Cathy Humphreys and Ruth Parker. "Throughout the book, Cathy Humphreys and Ruth Parker offer practical ideas for using Number Talks to help students learn to reason numerically and build a solid foundation for the study of mathematics. This book will be an invaluable resource whether you are already using Number Talks or not; whether you are an elementary, middle school, high school, or college teacher; or even if you are a parent wanting to support your child with mathematics."
This book study will meet online via ZOOM on Thursdays at 10 am CENTRAL TIME (which is 11 am EASTERN TIME).
See below for our reading schedule and come ready to participate in some great mathematical discourse:
May 7, 2020: Introduction - Chapter 3
May 14, 2020: Prelude to the Operations - Chapter 6
May 21, 2020: Chapters 7-8
May 28, 2020: Chapters 9-11
There is no cost to participate in this book study, however, participants should own a copy of Making Number Talks Matter or purchase a copy for themselves.
We ask that everyone wishing to participate in this book study register for this event so that the KCM can send handouts ahead of each session. ZOOM links for each of the four sessions will be available on the KCM website's virtual page 30 minutes prior to the start of each session. After your registration is complete, you will receive a registration confirmation email from email@example.com. If you don't see it in your inbox, please check your junk/clutter. We ask that if you are a math teacher in the state of Kentucky that you use your school work email address to register.
The Kentucky Center for Mathematics at Northern Kentucky University looks forward to connecting with you to discuss this wonderful math education resource.
