This course will clearly delineate what constitutes a proper release of private information
under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Topics
will include:

  • An Individual’s Rights to Medical Information
  • Valid Authorizations for Release of Information
  • Revocation of Consent
  • Psychotherapy Notes
  • Media Releases
Learning objectives and competency building for:
  • Creating procedures for the release of private information;
  • Evaluating requests for the release of private information;
  • Understanding regulatory obligations for prompt response to requests;
  • Having necessary forms in place for required documentation.
