Title: QPR Suicide Prevention Training
Description: Suicide prevention starts with awareness, confidence, and the ability to act when something doesn’t feel right. This QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training focuses on giving participants simple, practical skills to recognize warning signs, respond in a supportive way, and connect individuals to appropriate help. The session emphasizes real-world application in everyday environments, including workplaces and communities, and aims to reduce stigma around mental health conversations while strengthening early intervention.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Lana Loken brings nearly 30 years of experience in healthcare and higher education to her work in mental health advocacy and education. A certified athletic trainer by background, she spent 23 years as a professor and administrator of an accredited athletic training program, working closely with high school and collegiate students.
Throughout her career, Dr. Loken observed the growing mental health challenges and stigma faced by students and young adults, which often prevented individuals from seeking support. This experience led her to pursue additional training in mental health education and suicide prevention to better support early intervention efforts.
She currently serves as Senior Education & Policy Specialist with Lost&Found, where she develops and delivers trainings focused on reducing stigma, increasing mental health literacy, and strengthening prevention efforts across communities. Her work centers on building environments where mental health is recognized and addressed with the same importance as physical health.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Loken enjoys spending time with her husband, Brian, and son, Levi. She enjoys sports, reading, baking, and long walks with her dog, Jaxon, and is actively involved in her local community in Mitchell, supporting organizations such as Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the Mitchell Exchange Club, and her church.
