Out of the vast collection of human behaviors, one of the most rapidly changing has been how we connect, especially due to an increase of technology tools and services. From the handshake to the handset, how we join together and interact has evolved immensely, from a face-to-face conversation, to the long-distant exchange, on to the massive viral tweets. What does this evolution mean when we connect with our coworkers, patrons and community? How can we benefit from them, and what do we lose?

We will look at this evolution, from the traditional methods to our current connections, and what the advantages and disadvantages of each might be. We will focus on the main methods of connection today, that of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Vine and YouTube, and how we can use these tools to conveniently connect with patrons. Finally, we will glimpse into the future and look at how some emerging technologies will further change and enhance those interactions.
