Foundations for Primary Grades Mathematics cohorts are professional learning communities that grow second and third grade teachers’ understanding of effective ways to scaffold and differentiate instruction to better accommodate student needs via a learning climate that welcomes questions, opinions and participation of all students.  Members will focus on how to select instructional tasks that encourage mathematical discourse and help students conceptually understand place value, addition/subtraction, multiplication/division and fractions.  Participants receive specialized training from an experienced facilitator featuring evidence-based strategies and materials from experts in early numeracy development.  Community members provide support to each educator as new strategies and methods are utilized in the classroom.

Participant Requirements:
-Must be a second or third grade classroom teacher.
-Attend and fully participate in all in-person meetings.
-Complete required readings and assignments.
-Reflect on practice and be prepared to share thoughts with others.
-Must provide feedback on surveys and evaluation forms.

Schedule: (2 full days followed by 3 half days)

Please note that this PLE was originally scheduled at Morehead State University; however, MSU notified us in December 2018 that they no longer had the classroom available for us due to their new Spring semester schedule. We were able to move the first two days to the Rowan County Library, but the library did not have space for the February and March sessions. Those will be held at Owingsville Elementary in Owensville, KY which is in Bath County not Rowan County. We regret having to move the last three sessions outside of Rowan County. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone.   

Registration for Foundations for Primary 2nd & 3rd Grades 2019 will no longer be available after 11:59 pm on 12/6/18.
