Learn from the experts behind Special Outreach Services (SOS), an oral health education program for caregivers of people with disabilities, and Special Smiles, Ltd., a dedicated dental clinic providing anesthesia-supported care for individuals with disabilities. PRESENTERS
- Kelly Parker, RDH: Ms. Parker was the Clinical Manager at Special Smiles, Ltd., where she worked directly with patients with intellectual disabilities for three years before joining the Special Outreach Services team as the Outreach Hygienist. In her new role, Ms. Parker developed a core curriculum that can be customized to each individual; educates caregivers and individuals on proper oral health; and teaches onboarding and continuing education courses at facilities and universities.
- Saumya Ayyagari, MSN, MPH: Ms. Ayyagari provides overall direction and management of Special Outreach Services and supports directly in delivering SOS programs to facilities and families. She has worked in nursing and public health since 2015, and her focus areas have been patient- and family-centered care and serving vulnerable populations.
- Mark Goldstein, DDS: Dr. Goldstein has dedicated over 20 years to serving individuals with intellectual disabilities who require general anesthesia for dental care, founding Special Smiles, Ltd. in 2003— treating more than 40,000 to date. He also established the Special Smiles Dental Foundation, a nonprofit supporting Special Outreach Services, which delivers free preventive oral health education programs to families and care facilities.
- Jordan Strott, DMD: Dr. Strott earned her dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed advanced training in all dental specialties, including operating room dentistry, through a General Practitioner Residency at Mountainside Hospital. As a dentist at Special Smiles, she takes pride in providing comprehensive, personalized care, working closely with patients and their guardians to develop tailored treatment plans and ensure they understand the procedures and ongoing oral health maintenance.
