Please join us for NWAFP’s October 19, 2023 in-person meeting at the Washington Athletic Club with our guest panelists John Bean, Vice President of PNC and Randy Pargman, Director of Threat Detection at Proofpoint for a discussion of Best Practices of Fraud Detection.

Business email compromise; Account takeover; Social engineering; Malware and Ransomware; Payroll diversion; Card compromise and the dark web; Internal fraud; these are the pervasive threats that all business and technology leaders must confront and defend against every day.

As emerging faster payment channels introduce 24/7 origination with irrevocable settlement in seconds, organizations confront both an increasing rate and sophistication of attacks. While expanding API connectivity is driving a migration from batch processing to real-time execution, the immediacy and finality of an increasing number of transaction sets amplifies potential risk. Increased use of mobile and web-based activity has introduced new threat vectors.

While there is no single silver bullet solution, building and maintaining a strong system of internal controls continues to represent the best line of defense. This session will review current fraud metrics, profile primary threats, and provide other relevant insights. Most importantly, it will share a template of best practice control elements for activities with vendors, employees, customers and other stakeholders.
