This seminar will highlight innovative strategies to enhance the efficacy of existing antimicrobial drugs.\n\nPresented by: Priyank Kumar, BPharm, MS, PhD\n\nDr. Priyank Kumar is an Associate Professor of pharmacology at Western University. The Priyank Lab investigates critical molecular mechanisms underlying microbial pathogenicity and drug resistance, particularly in contexts where veterinary and human patients face environmental toxins and substances of abuse. Our research employs innovative approaches to understand how these external factors influence microbial behavior and drug response profiles. Our primary focus is deciphering the complex interactions between microorganisms and host systems under stressed conditions. We examine how exposure to environmental toxins and substances of abuse alters microbial virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance patterns. By characterizing how different microbes respond to various stressors and antimicrobial agents, we aim to optimize treatment protocols that consider both the pathogen's characteristics and the patient's exposure history. Our goal is to advance the field of precision antimicrobial therapy by understanding the fundamental relationships between environmental factors, microbial adaptation, and treatment efficacy. \n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n \n
