Description:
• Act as the primary liaison between the Council and juvenile justice programs established by statute at the State and Municipal levels.
• Collaborate with the Council to develop and submit recommendations to the Executive Board regarding the initiation of legislation needed at the State level in the field of juvenile justice.
• Review and evaluate pending juvenile justice legislation, providing formal recommendations to both the Council and Executive Board regarding support or opposition.
• Advocate for State legislation that provides funding for the reimbursement of juvenile probation administration and services, and regularly update the Council on the progress of such efforts.
• Monitor daily activities of the Pennsylvania Legislature for the introduction and status of juvenile justice-related legislation.
• Maintain and regularly update a legislative tracking sheet to monitor the progress and movement of juvenile justice bills within the Pennsylvania Legislature.
• Analyze proposed juvenile justice legislation, consult with members of the Juvenile Court Judges’ Commission (JCJC), and keep the Council’s Executive Committee informed of the status and implications of such legislation.
• Represent the Council’s official position to Pennsylvania Legislative committee chairs and members regarding pending juvenile justice legislation.
• Monitor weekly postings in The Pennsylvania Bulletin for entries related to juvenile justice, consult with JCJC members, and brief the Executive Committee of the Council on relevant developments.
• Represent and communicate the Council’s position to entities responsible for juvenile justice-related postings in The Pennsylvania Bulletin.
