Description: The Dan Wolz Clean Water Education Grant was established in 2006 to heighten public awareness of the career opportunities our industry has to offer and to improve the quality and quantity of Clean Water community education in Michigan’s public schools. Details: We partner with the Michigan Science Teachers Association to identify those teachers who have a great program and are in need of financial assistance to execute a year-long curriculum focused on water environment issues. For three years, we were able to send those teachers to WEFTeach and give them the kind of exposure to our technology, industry professionals and specialized education curriculum that is found nowhere else in the nation. In 2009, WEFTeach went on hiatus and is being reshaped into a collaboration with National Science Teacher Association. Grantees instead were provided classroom supply monies and scholarships to attend MWEA and MSTA’s state conference. Grantees also provide articles explaining their classroom projects to each of the Association magazines and speak at their conferences as well. The Dan Wolz Clean Water Education Committee is working hard to tailor a Michigan –WEFTeach – like experience. Our goal is to bring Michigan Science teachers together with our large industry expo for a professional development day and a meaningful introduction to Michigan’s water industry. If you are interested in helping to form the advisory team to make this a reality, please contact MJ Robinson (616-261-3552).
