Artist Statement

My work as a photographer explores the way I see and feel the world. I do not merely want to capture an image; I look to find beauty in serendipitous moments through light, form, and line.

I am passionate about photography because it allows me a tool through which I can freely and easily move outside traditional art forms to explore my world. Through my images I seek to cultivate or spark a sensation of heightened awareness deep within that is part sensual, in part visceral and magical.

I never enter a photo session with a preconceived plan of action or with specifications. Rather, my approach is playful, whimsical and experimental, like that of a child at play. My imagery is painterly: a visual blend of the real world and the way I think about it.

Through my images I seek to cultivate or spark a sensation of heightened awareness deep within that is part sensual, in part visceral and magical.” Ann von Pentz is originally from Indiana but lived in Washington, DC for thirty years where she pursued a career in International Affairs and Trade and raised her family. Always inspired by creative endeavors, about ten years ago she picked up a camera and began seriously exploring her world in new ways. In DC she mentored under one of the best and renowned professional teaching photographers in the area. Intrigued by the forms and lines of the macro world, she focused her eye primarily on field flora and flowers.

Ann left the East Coast in 2015 and now spends much of her time between Bozeman, Montana and Scottsdale, Arizona. Living in two exquisitely beautiful places, Ann’s focus has shifted to include landscapes and cityscapes. The thrill of the exploration and adventure in these two special places is integral to her recent work as a fine arts photographer. In addition, Ann continues to follow a lifelong passion to travel and explore new worlds. But now, with camera in hand, she is able to combine her sense of the world and her creativity into images.

Ann continues her mentorship with the professional photography world, attends area and international workshops as well as continued coursework. Her work is currently on exhibit at The Ridge in Bozeman, Montana and at the El Pedregal Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Ann is a member of the Sonoran Art League, the Dessert Light Photo Group and the F11 Photo Group in Bozeman, Montana.
