Artist Statement

In my current photographic project, "Blue Renewal," I have explored the multiple losses in life: death of a loved one, the ending of a long-term relationship, and the loss of career and sense of self. Abstract, aquatic designs and the color blue serve as the unifying elements in my emotional expression of loss and reaffirmation of life. For me, the color blue has multiple meanings: a visualization of what is dark and unknown; joy or hope; or the essence of life. The color blue expresses my many responses to loss over time. The aquatic designs compliment the evolution of my response to loss. The current Gallery pieces are hand-colored photographs of cyanotype-on-silk images.
