Join SMH Consultants as a Survey Crew Chief!
SMH is on the lookout for a skilled and motivated Survey Crew Chief to work in our Colorado Springs, CO office. In this role, you’ll coordinate the activities of a field survey party, perform the most technically complex paraprofessional field surveying duties, and other processes as required. You’ll also be responsible for the effective performance, training, and safety of all members of a field surveying party.
What You'll Do:
• Planning: Engaged in making plans and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects. You’ll participate in pre-survey planning meetings with PMs, engineers, and contractors as necessary.
• Management: Lead and manage the day-to-day activities of your assigned field crew; provide input for evaluation of field crew members; and instruct/train crew member in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
• Field Work: Gather field survey data through GPS methods. You’ll also prepare field notes and drawings, and perform field surveying for clients.
• Data Collection: Perform complex surveying calculations through surveying methods and Auto-CAD-Softdesk. This includes analyzing raw data and preparing finished grade sheets, topo maps, records of survey, and other reports
• Research and Professional Development: Research existing record information, and maintain field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems. You may also perform mapping compliance and other related duties in order to satisfy the experience requirement for the Professional Survey License.
Qualifications:
What We're Looking For:
The candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and have a valid driver’s license.
• Survey Expertise: Proficient in boundary, topographic, utility surveys, construction staking, planting, and legal descriptions
• Flexibility: Ability to perform work indoors and outdoors. You may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks over rough terrain and weather conditions, dig holes, and use hand tools.
• Communication: Effective oral and written communication with staff, engineers, contractors, clients, and the general public.
• Licensure: While not required, we welcome applicants with a license to apply. We also encourage applicants without a license to consider getting licensed if applicable.
• CAD Proficiency: Comfortable with survey data software (preferably compatible with Autodesk Civil 3D) and open to exploring new tools and technologies
• Experience: 2-5 years of surveying experience
• Certified Survey Technician (CST): A CST certification is not required, but preferred.
