Position Summary

The University of Idaho Extension, Northern District, is seeking a 12-month tenure-track position for an Assistant or Associate Professor, Area Extension Educator, Forestry. Extension and Outreach (80%) includes collaborating with clientele to address priority needs through research-based education, training, and consultation. Faculty develop and deliver non-credit programs, create educational materials, conduct demonstrations and field days, manage volunteers, and use mass and social media for outreach. Scholarship (15%) involves applied research and innovation to identify key issues, enhance programs, and share results for community impact. University Service and Leadership (5%) includes contributing to university governance, professional service, and collaborative initiatives that support the institution’s mission. Rank will be negotiated based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

Required Qualifications    

  • Master of Science Degree from an accredited institution in Natural Resources, Forestry, or related to the domain of this position. 
  • Experience adapting research-based materials into oral and written presentations.
  • Experience providing organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Experience collaborating in team-based environments to advance educational goals.
  • Experience using computer technology to market programs and communicate with stakeholders and clientele
Preferred Qualifications    
  • Experience working in Extension and/or a Land Grant University.
  • At least three years of experience in Extension education or demonstrated ability and skills in forest management, forest ecology, silviculture (relevant experience acquired within the last five years preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to design innovative and effective educational programs in response to local needs; implement and market programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Leadership and work experience in area of natural resources, forestry or related field
  • Experience in grant application and administration.
  • Experience working in youth development programs.
  • Supervisory experience and proven ability to lead, mentor, and coach others.
  • Extension experience providing effective instruction, support, and promotion for educational programs.
