Details:
(1) Uses laboratory meters and equipment to perform tests on water samples for alkalinity, PH, non-carbonate hardness, total hardness, free and total chlorine, turbidity, magnesium, odor, dissolved solids, fluoride, and temperature; runs tests at various stages in the treatment process including flocculated, recarbonated, and settled water; makes adjustments to chemical feed rates based on test results.
(2) Monitors computerized SCADA system and makes adjustments for clear-well level, high service pressure and flow, raw water flow, elevated tank levels, and sludge basin level; monitors pumps for operation; maintains plant security; checks sludge facility for proper operation; notifies maintenance personnel of problems; initiates emergency procedures such as during power outages (e.g., operates generator; etc.).
(3) Checks chemical feeders and pumps for operation, supply, feed rate, etc.; adds chemicals as necessary (e.g., lifts and carries chemical bags weighing approximately 50 pounds; etc.); adds carbon, lime, and returned lime, phosphates, potassium permanganate, ferric sulfate, chlorine, and fluoride, carbon dioxide, soda ash, etc. (e.g., uses overhead crane to move chlorine cylinders; etc.); receives and unloads shipments of chemicals and supplies, checks invoices, and notifies office of receipt (e.g., uses hand jack truck to move pallets loaded with chemicals; etc.).
(4) Back washes sand filters; logs filter operation data and rate of flow, total filter hours, average filter hours, gallons of wash water, and wash water per filter.
(5) Drives motor vehicle (e.g., drives light truck to pump station; etc.).
(6) Uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, and/or process information including but not limited to total gallons in, out, testing results and chemical use (e.g., uses Microsoft Outlook to send and receive electronic mail as necessary; enters data into Microsoft Excel to complete daily lab reports; etc.).
(7) Receives customer complaints and reported problems; documents and notifies appropriate personnel of issues; contacts the 911 operations center regarding fire notifications, water distribution issues, etc.
Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education (high school) with knowledge of math and chemistry, and experience as a Water Plant Operator as appropriate to the level of certification; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must possess Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Certification for Chemical Analysis; must possess OEPA Water Plant Operator I Certificate within two (2) years of employment; must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license; must meet the requirements for being insured by the City’s insurance provider.
Comments:
Relief Operator Position working Mon through Friday 7 am to 3 pm filling open shifts every other week (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
