THE ORGANIZATION

THE POSITION
Stores, labels and organizes equipment and parts within the Fleet Services facility. Prepares vehicles for use by cleaning, fueling and delivering them to employees. Provides assistance to mechanics by performing vehicle and equipment repairs as needed. Works both independently and with mechanics to clean shop and maintain supplies. Works independently performing minor vehicle repairs. Ensures the securement of vehicles, the shop, tool room and stockroom. Performs other related duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages resources (e.g. uniforms, vehicle keys, decals) for the Fleet Services department by keeping logs, labeling and restocking.
- Transport’s vehicles and their parts to and from various vendor locations or District facilities. Meets and assists vendors with deliveries and tasks at various district locations as directed on behalf of Fleet Services.
- Ensures equipment and parts are properly labeled and organized in the stockroom utilizing the CMMS and inventory tracking tools to ensure proper stocking levels. Restock supplies and maintains stockroom in a neat and orderly manner.
- Assists the mechanics with repairs and maintaining a neat and orderly shop.
- Makes minor vehicle repairs as determined by the Fleet Services Manager (including but not limited to changing lights, installing license plates, changing tires, jump starting vehicles) as well as performing some vehicle preparation and basic maintenance tasks to assist the mechanics.
- Ensures all vehicles are stored in secure and proper location at the close of business hours. Cleans, refuels and delivers vehicles to employees.
- Follows oral and written instructions.
- Operates powered industrial trucks (forklift/tow motor), other equipment and vehicles for purposes of transporting parts or equipment.
- Detail oriented. Self-motivating. Ability to work with both minimal and direct supervision as needed. Ability to effectively complete assigned task both individually and in team environments.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of vendors and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Candidate must possess a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the District’s acceptable guidelines.
- A Class A CDL (with tanker endorsement “N” and no air brake restriction) is required at the time of application for this position and, if not already obtained, must be earned within ninety (90) days of hire date.
- Preferred candidates possess a certification or is actively enrolled in course work in an automotive related field of study.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Candidate must possess the ability to do manual labor, use hand and power tools (air and electric), follow oral and written instructions.
- Candidate must possess basic knowledge in structural, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems as well as automated maintenance management systems.
- Candidate must possess the ability to be reliable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
During the course of performing the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to compare, compute, analyze, synthesize, copy, compile and coordinate. Ability to communicate while exhibiting strong interpersonal skills is required. Physical work will need to be performed, such as standing, sitting, hearing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, fingering and talking. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. on an occasional basis. Position will require visual demands of near acuity, depth perception, far acuity and accommodation. The position requires site and field work. While working on site or in the field the employee may be exposed to extreme weather, extreme heat and cold that is non-weather related, atmospheric conditions, vibrations and wet and/or humid. Employee must possess the ability to wear required respiratory protection devices, including not having facial hair that interferes with the facepiece-to-face seal.
