General Purpose of Job
This is skilled work in the maintenance of wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and other associated facilities on an assigned shift. Work of this class involves working with the Superintendent of Field Operations and/or assigned assistants in the performance of a variety of tasks pertinent to the maintenance of wastewater treatment and collection facilities and their appurtenances.

Work requires a thorough understanding of a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment used in the treatment and conveyance of wastewater along with a thorough understanding of how to repair and replace said equipment. This position shall also require in depth knowledge of the operations of wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities including the chemical and biological processes taking place at these facilities. Although the Superintendent of Field Operations is usually available, an employee of this class generally performs all tasks with considerable independence.

This person shall make decisions as are necessary for the continuous and proper maintenance of the facilities for which he/she is responsible. Such decisions shall be made in compliance with wastewater treatment standards established by local, state and federal agencies. Work is reviewed by the Superintendent of Field Operations to which it contributes to a satisfactory team effort in maintaining the plants for which he/she is responsible.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

75% Maintenance Duties
• Repairs, installs, and removes mechanical equipment to include but not limited to pumps, blowers, motors, the repair/replacement of seals, bearings, shafts, sensors, windings, impellers, volutes, wiring, cords, and other related components
• Following manufacturer specifications, performs preventative maintenance on department owned all equipment including but not limited to oils, greases, lubes, belt replacement, and mechanical adjustments
• Performs complex electrical repairs and installations
• Responds timely to declared county emergencies and other emergency situations that may require the use of equipment to protect the public health
• Maintains readiness and properly uses portable generators, portable pumps, and all other emergency response equipment
• Maintains and repairs equipment to include but not limited to Light Duty trucks, forklifts, skid steer, aerial- lift platforms, trailers, mowing and grounds equipment
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and/or replaces HVAC equipment to include but not limited to ventilation units of all types, AC units, water furnaces, gas fired heaters, electrical heaters
• Installs, repairs, or replaces of all types of plumbing and piping to include but not limited to ductile iron, PVC, copper, black iron, galvanized pipe
20% Administrative
• Assist in generating monthly operational reports, keep accurate records up to date and produce reports as required by management.
• Operate computer by entering and retrieving data using various software programs.
• Must be able to schedule and reschedule maintenance duties using computer maintenance program, always working with the Superintendent of Field Operations to set priorities.
• Will be required to conduct all routine office work to facilitate daily operations.

Qualification Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty along with the possession of the critical skills listed below.

• Individual operates the following types of equipment including, but not limited to,: sludge truck, sewer jet truck, combination jet/vacuum sewer truck, skid steer, forklift, service tractor, lawn tractor, aerial-lift platforms, trash pump, assorted portable pumps, 8000 lb. crane
• Individual uses electronic devices including, but not limited to, such as electric voltage meter, battery charger, OHM meter
• Individual uses hand tools required for including, but not limited to,; carpentry, masonry, electrical, mechanical
• Individual uses the following for safety protection including, but not limited to, gas monitor, confined space equipment, coveralls, boots, rubber gloves, leather gloves, face shields, safety glasses and G.F.C.I. cord
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle is required.
• Knowledge of materials, tools and standard practices of a variety of mechanical trades with particular emphasis on wastewater treatment plant equipment
• Knowledge of and ability to follow all precautionary and safety measures taken when dealing with the occupational hazards connected with general maintenance operations, including but not limited to ARC flash, confined space entry, and lock out/ tag out
• Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as computer, copier, telephone, IPad, calculator, and other equipment necessary to perform duties. Individual uses personal protective equipment as necessary
• Knowledge of and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook and other job-related software needed to complete job tasks
• Must be able to work as a team player and be able to adapt to changing working conditions and/or goals of the department.

Education and/or Experience
High school graduate or equivalent.
Have five (5) years of progressively responsible work in the maintenance of a wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and related facilities or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience in industrial maintenance.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts to satisfactory complete all documents required by county, state and federal agencies.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex manuals and documents necessary to repair or install equipment. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration
Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker, Air Brakes, and Standard Transmission Endorsements as issued by the State of Ohio.
Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate as issued by the State of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is not required at the time of employment but is a bonus. Those not in possession of licensure will be expected to obtain a Class I Wastewater Licensure within two years of hire.

Physical Demands:
On a daily basis, the essential duties of the job require the ability to walk, bend, stoop, crouch, climb ladders up to 25 feet, and stand for extended periods of time; to use hand strength and finger dexterity to operate hand and power tools and equipment and to use a computer; to use hands and arms to reach; to see well enough to read, write and make observations; to hear well enough to converse on the radio, telephone and in person; to use hands and feet to operate assigned vehicles and heavy equipment; to use body strength to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and to regularly lift weights up to 50 pounds.

Schedule Demands:
The person filling this position must have the ability to work variable hours based upon workload and schedule; work weekends and holidays; follow the policy and procedures set forth by the Marion County Sanitary Engineering Department; be on call 24 hours a day seven days a week if needed. Will be required to perform all job tasks using Federal, State and County safety guidelines and precautions. Will be required to respond to emergency callouts in accordance with callout policy and procedures.
