Job Opportunity — City of Harrison Position Title: Wastewater Operator – Class II or III
Department: Public Works – Wastewater Division Location: Harrison, OH
General Nature of Work: This is skilled technical work in the treatment and operation of the City of Harrison’s wastewater treatment facility. The selected individual will be responsible for conducting laboratory tests and inspections on wastewater materials and ensuring compliance with EPA standards. Work is performed under the general supervision of the department/division supervisor.
Equipment & Job Location: Job sites include the wastewater treatment facility and associated collection network. Equipment operated may include:
Laboratory instruments
Sewer vac truck
Various hand tools and mechanical equipment
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare and conduct laboratory tests (e.g., pH, BOD, ammonia, percent solids, fecal coliform, volatile acids)
Operate treatment equipment and monitor processes for efficiency
Maintain lab records and prepare performance reports for OEPA/USEPA
Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks
Respond to public concerns and emergencies when required
Contribute to compliance documentation and data tracking
Employees may be required to assist in tasks outside their job scope during emergencies
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Solid understanding of wastewater treatment processes and EPA compliance requirements
Proficiency in lab testing methods and wastewater monitoring procedures
Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical instructions
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
Commitment to safety and adherence to protective practices
Training & Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience in wastewater operations preferred
Or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Special Requirements:
Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License or ability to obtain
Possession of an active Ohio Class II or III Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate
Availability for emergency callouts, weekends, and holiday rotations
