Job Description:
Under supervision; assists with the operation of wastewater treatment plants; operates and performs minor maintenance on wastewater treatment plant equipment and related accessories. Performs other related duties as required.
Job Duties:
Operates a variety of wastewater treatment facility equipment (e.g chlorination unit, bar screen, vacuum filters, tertiary treatment devices, etc.); monitors the performance of aeration and settling tanks. Takes samples at various stages of the wastewater treatment process; performs basic laboratory tests for process control; reads and records data from ill variety of gauges, meters and other measuring devices; assists with establishing operating control parameters; maintains accurate operational logs and reports. Inspects equipment to determine if operating properly; changes charts as required; performs minor maintenance tasks (e.g. lubricates equipment, cleans, washes and changes filters; cleans and repairs Screens, grids, chemical unloading equipment, etc.); may assist in the repair of major equipment. Unloads chemicals into storage area; mixes chemicals as required; performs other manual work for safety in the storage and transportation of chemicals.

An employee will be exposed to the various hazards associated with wastewater treatment plant equipment, related pumping equipment and chemicals, under all types of weather conditions. Must be able to travel to and access various work sites.

•Requires various types of physical exertion, such as prolonged bending, stooping, and lifting, walking on uneven terrain, ice, snow, mud and driving vehicles and/or equipment for long periods of time
•Employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb, and balance, move, and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds repeatedly from one location to another
Qualifications:
Licensing/Certification:
•Must possess a Class A, I, II or III Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License issued by the State of Ohio.
•Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
Comments:
Salary based on operator license:
Class A: $26.24 hourly/$54,579.20 annually.
Class I: $28.49 hourly/$59,259.20 annually.
Class II: $30.13 hourly/$62,670.40 annually
Class III: $31.13 hourly/$64,750.40 annually.
