POSITION TITLE: Assistant Superintendent Operations CLASSIFICATION:
DEPARTMENT: Wastewater FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY: $94,479.85-$110,217.29 REPORTS TO: Wastewater Superintendent
JOB SUMMARY:
The position of Assistant Superintendent - Operation works at the direction of, and under the supervision of, the Wastewater Superintendent. He/she shall possess at least a Class III Operator’s License and employment shall be under the jurisdiction of the Mayor. The Assistant Superintendent - Operation is on call twenty-four hours a day and is responsible for the daily operations of Wastewater Treatment Plants ‘A’ and ‘B’.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following list of essential job functions is not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Be qualified to supervise the employees for the operation of the wastewater treatment works
• Set work schedules for employees and assign daily work orders
• Operate the wastewater treatment facilities in order to meet parameters established by the state and federal EPA
• Oversee and work with the wastewater laboratory to maintain proper plant operation
• Have the knowledge to operate and troubleshoot all equipment essential to the function of the wastewater treatment facilities
• Maintain all records concerning plant operation and disposition of work programs underway and completed as directed by the Superintendent
• Inform and consult with the Superintendent regarding all major operational problems which may be encountered
• Work with the Assistant Superintendent - Maintenance to establish schedules of maintenance procedures for all plant equipment under the direction of the Superintendent
• Perform the Assistant Superintendent – Maintenance duties when necessary
• Perform all other duties as directed by the Superintendent or Mayor.
• Work with and assist others with the SCADA operating system
• A continual upgrading of education and training shall be required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must possess the basic knowledge of operations and standard operating procedures of wastewater treatment facilities. The Assistant Superintendent – Operation shall have the skills necessary to supervise, assign work, and complete the necessary follow up reports. Must have knowledge of basic office methods and procedures, use of office equipment including a computer and related software. Have a general knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations as they apply to the wastewater treatment works. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and employees. Ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and in making decisions. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Must also have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.



Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and possess at least a Class III State of Ohio Operator’s License and a current valid State of Ohio Driver’s License. Shall also have considerable knowledge of wastewater facilities, methods, and procedures including laboratory and maintenance. Possess good communication skills and the ability to coordinate work with others.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee has the ability to work safely. Some outdoor work is required with the inspection of plant processes, buildings and their contents, structures, and equipment. Ability to enter confined space and areas using ladders or steep stairs. Standing, walking, and use of hands to operate tools and controls along with kneeling, crouching, and climbing are common. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions with risk of electrical shock, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
